The two authors used a narrative mode. Cisneros says, “I can’t think of anything else I’d rather be than a writer.” Equiano states that “on deck; and from my extreme youth I was not put in leathers.” While using the words “I”, “me”, “my”, “us”, and we illustrate that the author uses a consistent amount of the first person throughout the text. First person point of view is someone telling you his or her story.The stories told by the two authors are personal experiences that have taken place in their life. Cisneros didn't necessarily provide us with as much description as Equiano did but she did include pieces of descriptive context throughout the text. “I'm the skinny girl in the picture with skinny arms and a crumpled shirt and crooked hair,” gives us an ideal image of how Cisneros looked when she was younger which allows us to picture her. Sandra included many events that occurred throughout her life which she spoke about in the text. Cisneros includes in the text, “I was aware of having begun already my own quiet war.
