She found his unread packages and was able to both call a psychiatrist named Dr. Rosen who ultimately helped Dr. Nash confront his unrealistic symptoms in a cognitive behavioral manner and was able to confront Nash about the packages to show him it was not real; which ultimately supported Dr. Rosen’s goal to help Nash recognize the difference between his delusions and reality.
It is also important to note how the director added a few details to the treatment of Schizophrenia. For example, Dr. Rosen is a psychiatric Dr. set in the 1950’s who is portraying a Cognitive Behavioral treatment that was not available or even thought of until well into the late 90’s. Furthermore, his methods are also mixed with the actual treatment methods of the 50’s such as electro shock treatment and psychotropic drugs like Thorazine that are no longer used today due to the known side effect of mimicking dopamine ticks that are much like Parkinson’s symptoms.
Finally, it is equally important to note the director also portrayed John Nash as an individual who also progressed and aged well, as many individuals with Schizophrenia have seen a decrease in symptoms as they get older. It may be the normal decrease in cognition as people age. It also may be that those with Schizophrenia simply get used to ignoring those symptoms that come with the
