The two weeks of spring break off from service learning had finally come to an end. It was time to get back to work with the students. Time has fly by quickly and we only have five weeks left of the program before the semester is over. When I was driving on the road I was reflecting and thinking back on the first day of my service site and how uncomfortable and insecure I felt about this new experience. Now however I feel confident and I think that during my time performing service at El Jardin I am slowly beginning to form closer relationships with Kayti my site supervisor and the parents of the students who are participating. I have learned how to work better with older elementary students and I have discovered that sometimes it can be quite difficult to have them engaged because sometimes they feel tired, stress or overwhelmed which leads them to not feel enough motivation to finish their work. I admire the dedication and willingness of the parents because week by week they always make sure to bring their children to the program and although some parents have a language barrier in which they have difficulty understanding and being engaged in their students education they do benefit from this program because there are volunteers who help and support the children preparing them for the future. In the program, I think I am teaching the children how to become more motivated and find a passion for school and I think I am teaching the parents the value of education and make them realize that one day their bright and intelligent students will also have the opportunity to pursue a college education because anything is
