Comparing and finding similarities between the North and South life both required slaves to do part of their labor work.
North culture was based on life in the cities with a free population of people. Manufacturing companies were built on the North side instead of the South side due to terrain that was very rocky and hilly that made it really hard to do any farming. The North consisted of humid summers and cold snowy winters. Some factories were set up to make textiles (cloth goods ). Economy in the North expands with new methods of farming, inventions, and transportation. Cities developed as trading centers while being crowded and dirty. Tobacco and cotton were the main crops grown and were sent to the south to be manufactured. One third of the population in the south were slaves. Most southerners lived on small farms that grew a few crops. Large farms are called plantations and were owned by the wealthy people who some of them owned slaves. The south had very few cities but once in while you would see a large city.
Similarities between the North and South is that they both had railroads. African Americans made up most of the labor both in the North and South. Immigrated races made up most the population both in the North and South for example Europeans migrated during the 1800 and 1860. The North and South both needed something from each other, the North needed crops from the south while the south needed manufactured goods. Higher class groups were usually educated. Last but not least the North and south treated slaves poorly but few other people that owned slaves treated them
