Sleep paralysis is the inability to move and/or speak upon sleeping or waking. Usually self diagnosable and self treatable, it is not something you dream of experiencing. These episodes usually last about two minutes. It is common to experience, along with a hindering sense of fear, a presence or the feeling of an intruder in the room. The overwhelming feeling of helplessness, and the vivid imagery in the visions your brain congers up is terrifying. In a dream your brain responds to certain levels of activity, sleep paralysis creates such vivid and graphic imagery that it causes the brain to respond and intensify “emergency mode” as if the threat is too real. Cutting out anxiety and stress in your life can lead to an an improved sleeping habit. I saw red as what sounded like slamming lockers rang throughout my head, sending violent shivers throughout my body. “It’s just a dream.” I thought to myself, “wake up.” As I went to exit the colorful nightmare I was experiencing, I couldn’t move. The lockers got louder and the imagery more graphic. Through my visions stained with shades of red, I saw what seemed to be a dark hallway, and at the end of it was what seemed like unfathomable darkness. It was darker than dark, it seemed so deep and so dark not even the sun could help me
