The Spanish-American War of the late 19th century remains one of the most infamous wars in American and Spanish history. Because of its causes, including U.S. involvement, and because of the time period it occurred in, it is so well known. Some of the causes of this war include the sinking of the USS Maine and McKinley’s War Message. This war occurred during the period of the Gilded Age, which was a nationalistic period because of how well the U.S. economy, industries, and politics were doing. The Gilded Age was a time period when industrialization in America increased, leading to more wealth overall.
