Speech Rough Draft
For this speech, I will take the miniskirt approach. Long enough to cover the essentials but short enough to keep your attention. Men and women face both positives and negatives in the modern world. Obviously, you are either male or female and might look at this speech at a different view than others: but in the words of Patti Smith “As far as I’m concerned, being any gender is a drag.” There are multiple stereotypes implanted upon men and women and those can be respectively be put as…myths. All of you have certainly heard the obvious ones. Women are meant to stay at home, Men are meant to work, Women are meant to clean and cook, Men are meant to take care of mechanical work, All girls think about are boys, And all boys think about are sssss…..ports. Yeah Yeah Yeah… we have all heard those and get offended easily but have you ever thought about life if it was the other way around? Gender roles in today’s society are meant to be. Forbes.com calculated that in 2008, public college enrollment for women was 7.8 million while for men it was barely 6 million. Bravo ladies! This is a perfect example of when American writer Chaz Bono said “Gender is between your ears and not between your legs.” However, another study also shows that on average, men have a maximum of 6 bathroom products while women average around 429 per household. Also we could argue for hours whether getting kicked in the groin is more painful than giving child birth. But let us all agree that getting put in the friendzone hurts twice as much as those combined. All of this aside, we were all female at one point. That’s right: the Y chromosome that determines if you are a male or female doesn’t kick in until 5-6 weeks of embryonic development! Interesting huh? We gentlemen tease the group that we once were. I also had the wonderful experience to travel to Saudi Arabia this summer. And as some of you may know, Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that doesn’t allow women to drive. And you may also know that although their leaders might be filthy rich, the majority of people live in poverty. Maybe it is because the lack of equality in gender. Together, 2 people can always do more work than 1. In the words of George Carlin, “Men are from Earth, women are from Earth. Deal with it.” Men have some accomplishments women don’t have.
