The city of Ottawa almost never has problems with street racing; however, the number of street racing incidents and complaints has increased. It is the Ottawa Police’s job to track down these offenders and bring light to this dangerous activity. With the upmost safety in mind, the city of Ottawa has tried to create more awareness on the subject and the penalties of the crime. With street racing such an unnecessary activity that costs people their lives; citizens will not stop until the streets of their city are free of street racing. Anyone found performing any street racing; stunts or contests of any kind will face a seven day vehicle and license suspension immediately, upon that, fines of up to $10,000, and years of conviction. While driving, risk of injury or even death is up to five times greater when a vehicle crashes. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation describes that “Street racing is one of the most serious and reckless forms of aggressive driving. It shows a callous disregard for other drivers and road users, and it puts everyone on the road at serious risk of injury or death. Street racers run the risk of being charged under the Criminal Code of Canada.” Over 15,000 people have been charged with stunt driving since the laws were passed in 2007. The new regulation takes effect and if someone is caught driving 50 kilometers an hour or more above the speed limit, they will be treated like a street racer and considered stunt driving. According to
