Tetanus Tetanus is one of the well-known diseases to the ancient people and also in our time. A long time ago, the ancient people connected the relation between cuts and wounds to deadly muscle spasms. [1] In 1884, Antonio Carle and Giorgio Rattone showed for the first time tetanus mobility by injecting rabbits with a patient pus. [1] Later in 1924, P. Descombey developed a vaccine. [1] The vaccine helped in world war II by reducing tetanus cases at that time. [1] So in this essay I will demonstrate tetanus signs, symptoms, causes, preventer, and treatment.
Tetanus has some unique signs and symptoms. First, the most obvious sign is lockjaw, which means rigidity of jaw muscles. [1] Second, the lockjaw could affect the facial muscles to form an appearance called risus sardonicus. [1] Risus sardonicus means extreme features of abnormal continues spasms of the facial muscles. [2] The rest of the body muscles can be affected by spasms. [1] For example, breathing problems, heart attack, swallowing, all come from spasms. [1] Third, rigidity …show more content…
Immunization lasts against tetanus for ten years. [3] There are two types of vaccine, DTaP and Tdap. [3] In the US, DTaP is a 3-in-1 vaccine which protects against diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus. [3] On the other hand, Tdap vaccine is used to keep the immunity for those in age seven and older. [3] Finally, treatments depend on the case severity. For example, when the case is mild, we use tetanus antibodies. [1] It can be given as intravenous therapy or by intramuscular injection. [1] On the other hand, when the case is severe, it mostly needs high care. [1] Tracheotomy is needed for better airway. [1] Diazepam is a muscle relaxant drug used for controlling muscle spasms. [1] As you can see that These methods and treatments are some of the most effective on tetanus
