One time, growing up, I went to a camp called Wilderness Camp. There, I was playing catch with two of my friends. When one threw it to me, however, the ball went too high and went over the barbed-wire fence. This tennis ball was my only one, so I climbed onto the rocks and climbed over the fence. On my way back over, however, one of the rocks shifted, and I fell. My leg scraped against two pieces of rusty barbed-wire. I went to the nurse, and she asked me if I had gotten my tetanus shot, because a rusty barbed-wire can cause this disease. Tetanus, commonly known as lockjaw, is an infection caused by the bacterium Clostridium tetani. There are many different ways that this disease can be obtained, and also many different signs. They first produced this disease in animals by injecting them with the pus from an infected human. Then, Arthur Nicolaier produced tetanus in animals by injecting them with the ‘infected’ soil.
