With the busyness of our lives, it is easy to let the true meaning of Thanksgiving get lost in the hustle and bustle. In reality, Thanksgiving Day was established as a day set apart from all of the others in the year to give thanks to God for the bounty of the harvest and acknowledgment of His favor on our lives. It doesn’t depend on others to participate with us – we can be thankful completely on our own. It doesn’t matter what nationality, gender, creed, or color we are. Thankfulness is fully diverse and inclusive. All it takes is an acknowledgement of the blessings in our lives, and gratitude towards a very good God for all that we have. Thankfulness for the wonderful things that happened to us during the previous year, and maybe more importantly, for the conditions and events He delivered us from, most we probably don’t even know about!
Lord today we take time out of our busy lives to truly give You the glory. Out of hearts full of grace and gratitude, we give thanks to You and You alone. Not only for what You do today, but for all You have done in the past, and with wondrous expectation of what You will do in our future.
King David said it best in the book of Psalms when he wrote, “Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms” (95:2). “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name” (100:4).
