It sounds simplistic, but it is a mystery to untold in management. To have success at persuasion you must have empathy of the other person’s opinion. To truly understand where the rank and file is coming from, you pledge to be a superior listener. It has been said that you acquire the truth from body language even more than the spoken word, becoming a robust listener also involves taking visual clues that are given when the person is speaking. I can be a keen listener and at other times I struggle due to being physically tired or distracted by my own problems. It takes considerable energy to listen to someone that may be bringing news that you do not welcome. A skillful leader can turn a negative into a positive; this includes their ability to handle conflict. Conflict naturally occurs where you have strong personalities and is not necessarily an unfavorable situation if you can channel that energy into positive outcomes. In the past, I have handled conflict better when I prayerfully sought wisdom in how to deal with it. When I have tried to deal with it on my own, usually I just made a poor situation worse. My strengths are found in my ability to feel empathy for others, and at the same time this can be my weakness when I get caught up in foolish pride.
