Social location is the groups that a person is a part of due to their social position, such as gender, class, career, age, and race/ethnicity (4). It can also include a person’s ability or geographical location (Glossary). Understanding that a person’s perspective is influenced by their social location is important, because our behaviors and our thoughts are formed by outside influences, such as history, society, and our own experiences (4). At the moment my own social location is female, middle-class, unemployed, and white. I am able-bodied and live in the southern United States. My social location hasn’t changed very much over the past year. I was born female, and continue to identify as a female. I have grown up in a comfortable house
