Is it Worth the Change?

Gun control has been a growing topic in recent years. Murders, shootings, and even common accidents are broadcasted to extremes, thanks to the advancement of technology. Therefore this broadcasting of killings leads American citizens to question our second amendment right. Should we repeal or amend this right? Or should we leave it the same? I think we should leave the amendment as it reads. If the seconded amendment were to become more restricted, people who use guns for recreational purposes would find it harder to carry out their collections and hobbies. Furthermore, requiring more tests and psychiatric evaluations sounds like a good idea in theory, though it would be nearly impossible to test every individual in the country for mental stability. For example, recreational uses can include Olympic competition, collecting, sporting pursuits, target practice, and recreational shooting, found on gunlaws.com. Military personnel have been among the few to be criticized for their recreational gun use. According to study conducted by Harvey M. Sapolsky who is Professor of Public Policy and Organization, Emeritus at MIT, only one percent of the American population serves in the military. Those who are in the service go through intense training on proper gun handling and have to be evaluated before being allowed to handle a firearm. If you remove the one percent of those in the military from the twelve percent of Americans who use guns for recreational use, you would be left with eleven percent. Therefore, eleven percent of our population participates in a recreational activity involving a gun.
