One of the top groups massacred in World War II was the Romani population of Europe. The Romani, or Roma, are an ethnic group of people who were greatly damaged during and after WWII. They faced many challenges during this time of affliction.
The Roma are a very cultural and diverse assemblage of travelers. Sometimes the word ‘Gypsy’ is used instead of Rom, the singular form. Though this word was, and still is, considered demeaning to the Roma. They are always traveling. They come from northern India, but began moving around in the 13th and 14th century. At first, they moved into Persia, but later they began to migrate to Europe. Some live a small, local life while others support grand, colorful, and luxurious life with bright horse-drawn carriages.
