The Selective Service Act was created as a process of selecting men to go into the military services. This act was passed and signed into law on May 8th, 1917 by Woodrow Wilson. This act required all men in the United States of America and Puerto Rico, between the ages of twenty-one to thirty, to register for military service. This was needed at the time, in preparation for the world war, due to the fact that the United States Army was inadequate to what was needed for World War I. The Selective Service Act had three registration periods, eligibility requirements, and also faced a lot of resistance.
