Example the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010 and the Dietary reference Intake (DRI) are food guidance systems that form the foundation for federal food program recommendations goals (page 189). It is necessary to create healthy menu that contain lots of balanced diet that meet all the requirements for their growth and nourishment; Toddlers are meticulous eaters and must meet each child unique needs in the program. Example, in page 190 indicates, “Planning healthy meals that appeal to children and accommodate their needs is a key component of this responsibility.” This can achieve best when both directors and teachers understand children nutritional needs. For Instance, in page 151 of chapter 5 specifies “To accomplish these goals, teachers need to understand the nutritional requirements of toddlers, recognize characteristics of toddlers diets, and know how to feed toddlers in culturally appropriate ways”. Offer children all the nutritional foods such as fruits, low-fat dairy products like milk, yogurt and cheese and leans. Meats also can be chicken, turkey, fish, lean hamburger, whole grain cereals as well as bread. It is important to avoid junk foods and other beverages that contain too much sugar. Children healthy menu have to include their cultural or family foods with colorful and nice flavors, textures, that will support and encourage their given the appetizing nutritious menus in the palates of young children. According to the textbook chapter 5 page 165 specifies that “Exposing children to variety of nutritious foods sets the tone for healthy eating across their life span”.
In conclusion, when planning menu for infants, those with special menu and dietary concerns such as food allergies, cultural and religious issues should be included. This also entails that parents, directors, and teachers, as well as food services staff needs to work together so that each child receive appropriate nutritional foods.
