Everyone has heard of the Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery and freed the slaves in The Union. One could argue that he didn't free all slaves he just freed the one in the Northern states but since the south secluded he had no jurisdiction of the southern states. This would later free all slaves after the Civil War. Not many presidents showed great presidential qualities like he did. He surrounded his cabinet with not only members of his party but the opposing party to make sure decisions weren't one sided and were seen from all points of view.
