Whole Foods Market was found in Austin, Texas in year 1980 when four businesspeople named John Mackey, Renee Lawson Hardy, Craig Weller and Mark Skiles decided to open the supermarket that sells only natural foods. In the company’s viewpoint, organic agriculture means a production method that emphasizes the use of renewable resources and the preservation of soil and water to improve environmental quality (Organic Food, n.d.). The company’s value proposition is to provide organic, natural, and healthy food products to the customers who have passionate about healthy food and environment. Moreover, Whole Foods Market’s source of their products come from local farmers that completely meet the company’s standard, which is set internally such as unabrogated and unbleached flour by purchasing their products through each store’s procurement …show more content…
They have been trying to make green choices since they opened their first store (Porter & Kramer, 2006). Whole Foods Market’s commitment is to make their business environmentally and natural friendly operating practices extend beyond sourcing. The mission statement of Whole Foods Company and Whole Foods Market start with their motto. The company’s motto is “Whole Foods, Whole People, and Whole Planet.” According to the company’s mission statement, it explains and defines what motto means is. The word “Whole Foods” means the company obtains their products from local farmers and all over the world, which mostly from a small, unique, dedicated food artisans. Whole People means the company enrolls the best people they can to become part of their team. The company empowers their employees to make their own decision, create a respectful workplace where people are treated equally, and highly stimulated to succeed.
