Why Do Gun Laws Cause School Shootings?

At the same time Kindergarteners and some pre-K-ers are learning their ABCs, they’re learning what to do if there ever is a threat to the school. These are performed quite often and called lockdown drills with the intent to protect children from gun threats. Many kids at that age think lockdown drills are dumb- turning off the light and hiding in a corner, silently. Most teachers wouldn’t even tell their children what that drill represented, some would go as far as calling it a quiet game. These four-year-olds first learning how to go unnoticed and act as if no one was in the room is unfortunately a life or death situation in the United States of America. However, some believe gun laws don’t need to be stricter- that it’s a God-given right due to the Second Amendment. I do agree with that, slightly. For example, on April 11, 2021, in Wilmer, Alabama a gun was used greatly for protection. A son had shot his father when the father had “began assaulting the man’s stepmother.” The heritage saved the stepmother. Another terrifying incident that occurred on April 26 in Walled Lake, Michigan, was when three armed intruders with dogs tried to kick down a Black family’s door while yelling racial slurs and threatening to kill them. The residents of the house, a mother and her two sons, acted quickly. One son called the police, while the other shot at the intruders through a window and scared them off. If they didn’t have a gun, it was very possible the intruders could’ve ended up killing all three of them. In these cases, guns were used right and were shown to be the perfect self-defense tool.
