Making the choice of whether you want to attend college or not is a very important decision any person will make in their life. No matter if a person is starting college for their first year or someone is a returning student, it is a big deal. We are always told we should take things seriously when going through high school because it will help prepare us for college, but do high school teachers always teach the most valuable things to help a person be successful throughout college? Yes, a high school teacher might teach a student how to be respectful, how to create a PowerPoint, and how to put words together to form an essay, but those are just the basics. In college, professors will do their best to encourage students to be responsible by giving them advice and allowing the student to make the decision to visit them during their office hours for any questions they might have. Choosing to visit a professor outside of the classroom shows that the student has responsibility and does not need to be forced to complete their work. In college, the student must be responsible enough to know that completing school work is more important than the party their friends invited them to on a Saturday night. Being responsible is very important for many reasons all leading up to whether or not a person will graduate with a degree. Responsibility is also important outside of college as well. If a person is not responsible and chooses to be late to their job every day, chances are they will lose their job. If the student plans to someday retire with a large sum of money, they must be responsible with their duties instead of not doing what they should because they “don’t feel like it” or because “it’s boring.” An important part of being responsible is being able to manage your time
