Why I Want To Volunteer

I have babysat since I was 14 years old. I volunteered for an after-school program with elementary aged children for 4 months. I did activities and played games with them for an hour and a half. This past summer, I was a nanny for two boys ages 8 and 11. I watched them for nine hours a day four times a week.

Do you have any previous work experience within schools? Explain.

I have a variety of experiences volunteering within the elementary schools in my hometown of Sartell, MN. In high school, I took two volunteer classes that allowed me to volunteer at the elementary schools in my district. For the duration of one course, I volunteered in a kindergarten classroom and help with activities. I walked around while they were working on assignments and helped answer questions. In the other course, I volunteered for the entire semester in a fourth-grade classroom. I helped work on reading, spelling, and math skills. During my junior year of high school, I volunteered once a week for an hour in a first-grade classroom. The teacher gave me a list of students that I would pull out of the classroom and have them read to me. I was working with students who were not getting enough reading practice at home or who were struggling with reading in general. I think the position ties in well with the major I am working towards, which is very important to me. I have had experience working with a variety of different elementary classrooms, and I have enjoyed all of my opportunities immensely. I think this position would be really rewarding. Seeing the progress students make is a remarkable experience, and I have always wanted to work in a field that helps others achieve their goals. Working in a helping profession is very important to me, which is one of the main reasons I am so drawn to this
