Some countries still test on animals such as the United Kingdom. The Economist reported that,”The European Commission is forging ahead with proposals that will increase the number of animal experiments carried out in the European Union…” The companies that are pushing for this approved proposal also want thirty thousand animals …show more content…
For example a small firm called PrimeCyte grows cells and test chemicals on them and watch the cell carefully to look for changes in their micro anatomy. Another firm called Epithelix which is in Geneva has developed an artificial version of lining of the lungs! Dr. Huang Song who is one of the researchers of the project said,”That they could be used in long term toxicity tests of airborne chemicals and could also help identify treatments for lung diseases.” Just by using this artificial lining instead of animals would save so many helpless lives from the pain of having their lungs and bodies destroyed by these tests. In Berlin Germany they are doing a separate research project where they are trying to mimic the human immune system. Their research is doing so well that a spokesperson from the company said,”ProBioGen’s lymph node could work better than animal testing. In addition to this another scientist named Mukund Chorghade who is a veteran chemist has created a compound called the “chemosynthic liver”. This compound is able to shed new light about the liver and metabolites; whereas a animal liver might not be able to. Mukund Chorghade has said many things about this amazing discovery,” We can give you very accurate structural data--nothing is left to guess work. Which is totally …show more content…
For years colleges have been testing on animals for “research” purposes. Though how is animal torturing considered research? A unknown author at good medicine decided to write an article about a poor cat named Fiddles who was a victim of animal abuse at the University of Virginia's pediatrics training program . They reported,”Fiddle had plastic tubes forced down his throat 22 times in one day.” Fiddle also wasn't the only cat that this university abused they have abused hundreds of other cats for years. The same reporter also said,”...other cats used by the university often suffer tracheal bruising, bleeding, scarring, and severe pain, and are at risk of death.” Luckily, a animal rights organization had stepped in before any more innocent animals were hurt. Another organization you probably didn't know abused animals was the US army. The army had been testing nerve agents and other poisonous gases on monkeys for years. After long battle was fought when animal organizations brought this situation to light the army finally agreed to stop testing on them in
