The article explains that, “73% of American high school students and 58% of middle school students surveyed aren’t getting enough sleep (Hutson). This study shows how over half of middle school students and the majority of high school students don’t get enough sleep each night. Not getting enough sleep can be harmful in the long run. Considering the alarming rate of students who don’t get enough sleep and how a student needs 9 hours of sleep, schools should not start so early to give kids quality time to sleep. The second reason schools should start later is because kids will get good grades. Evidence shows that kids will get better grades if they get better sleep. According to the article, ‘Later School Starts Linked to Better Teen Grades.’ by Silke Schmidt, “A new study used activity trackers worn on the wrist to see how such a delay affected kids in a real school. And it showed kids slept more, got better grades and missed fewer days of class when their school day started somewhat later” (Schmidt). This article shows how if the school day started later, kids would get better grades and they missed fewer days of
