World hunger refers to the many people worldwide who currently face on insufficient quality of food. Every day these people suffer from growth failure, a greater risk of contracting diseases, starvation, and death. Throughout the world, one person dies of hunger every 3.6 seconds (UNICEF). Hunger, Malnutrition, poverty, and famine are all huge characteristics which heavily relate to world hunger. Millions around the globe, in Asia, Africa, North America and even individuals in developed countries are affected by world hunger. The biggest cause of world hunger is that many people cannot provide for their families as they do not earn enough and are unable to purchase foods within the money they earn as everything is so expensive. Hunger harms people physically, mentally, and emotionally. Over long periods of time, hunger can slow physical and mental development in children, leaving them vulnerable to illness and disease. (Food Science) The more malnourished someone is, the more likely that person will have intense problems. Adults experience rapid weight loss, weakness, and non-stop irritation. Hunger causes mental suffering as you do not receive the right diet for a brain to function appropriately which can affect your mental health through worries, fear of feeding your family or children, and constant stress. (Think Progress) The population of the earth is always increasing and growing which means that even more people are going to be suffering from hunger. Other illnesses and diseases which people suffer from due to the hunger problem include blindness, anemia, and various other malnutrition related problems. There are several developing and poor countries which have a hunger problem. Some of these countries include D.R Congo, Somalia, Burundi, Ethiopia, Tajikistan and Afghanistan. According to The FAO, Out of all seven continents, the continents that contain the hungriest countries are Africa and Asia. (FAO) The country that is considered the most conflict filled and hungriest in the continent of Africa is Somalia. Somalia suffers through a hunger crisis due to the 5 major causes of hunger within a country which are war and conflict, weather and climate change, agriculture, population growth and poverty. All factors played a major role in the decline of the country but poverty was the biggest reason as the yearly GDP of the country was immensely low.
