It is important for all new staff members to receive a full and detailed induction, this will give the staff member vital and important information about the company and the expectations we have, it provides a chance for all new staff to read all policies and procedures in place, all care plans and risk assessments and to complete mandatory training required for them to be compliant. It also gives them the opportunity to shadow trained staff to enable them to gain a deeper knowledge of the service users needs. The new staff member will also be shadowed by trained staff to ensure they are competent in completing tasks. New staff are trained on how to correctly administer medication and will have a minimum of three medication competencies completed during the first two weeks of employment. The induction process will define everyone’s responsibilities and accountability in the roles that all staff must fulfil to maintain our core values of being Approachable, Supportive, Professional, Innovative, Reliable and Empowering. The safeguarding agenda must be clearly outlined to staff and any other person who comes into my setting as I have a duty to ensure that the care provided is safe and of a high standard. This means that I am required to provide new staff with an induction that clearly outlines how I expect them to behave towards the service users they will be supporting, and how I expect them to be able to recognise what poor care, neglect and abuse are. The new staff member should be clear on what to do if they experience or see anything that affects a person’s wellbeing and how to follow the policies and protocols in place to report these concerns.
