India is split up into many different parts of beliefs and religions. In Ancient India, the biggest three religions were Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The main religion that covers approximately 78.35% of India in Hinduism. Hindu means river and is used by outsiders to describe the Indus River Valley, a large water supply in India. Many of the believers refer to their religion as eternal religion and the fulfillment of duties.appropriate to one’s class and stage of life. Hinduism has no founder or origin. There are about 360 million believers in Buddhism worldwide, the majority being from India. Although not all believe in it, some follow the rules of it being peace and nonviolence. Buddhism is based off the teachings on an Indian prince named Siddhartha Gautama who lived around 500 B.C. According to the legend he went on a search for peace and came back the “Enlightened One.” After that he spent the last 45 years of his life speaking of this religion. Buddhism has taken many different forms, some make offerings, some pray, and others meditate, but all of them share respect for Buddha and the goal of ending suffering. The last religion they studied in Ancient Egypt was Jainism. The main goal of Jainism was to reach liberation in a life with purification, discipline, and nonviolence. Followers of this religion are called Jains and there are about 4 million worldwide. This religion began around the same time Buddhism started. They believe in 26 spirtual leaders that will guide them to perfection in life. These are also known as tirthankaras and the last one was named Mahavira dying in 527 B.C.
