Anne Frank’s life has impacted the lives of others because of her family background, Anne’s time in hiding, and what she expressed in her family’s diary. So many people worldwide know about Anne’s story. They all have a role in how the world now perceives the Holocaust. After getting married, Otto and Edith Frank settle in Frankfurt. They soon have children: Margot in 1926, and Anne in 1929. Those first few years are happy ones, but the economic crisis empowers Hitler’s NSDAP. In 1933, Hitler takes over as leader of the German government. Otto and Edith Frank are deeply worried. The persecution of the Jews and the economic crisis cause huge problems. They look for a means of escape. In 1933, Otto Frank manages to set up a business in Amsterdam. Edith, Margot and Anne follow him to the Netherlands. They find a place to live on the Merwedeplein. The Franks feel safe and free again. The children go to school, Otto works hard on his business and Edith takes care of the household. But then World War 2 breaks out. On 10 May 1940, Germany invades the Netherlands. The Frank family is in danger once more. This is when the hiding takes place. They were protecting themselves from death. All that time, they will not be able to go outside and they will have to share the darkness and dampness of the hiding place, continually fearful of being discovered. There was another family in hiding with them, with the name of the Van Pel family. They had a young boy the age of Anne named Peter. They got along and became friends.
