6. Nursing Interventions:
• Administer Tofranil per doctor’s order. – this will reduce depression, anxiety and pain. o Monitor BP and Pulse prior to and during therapy. o Monitor plasma levels. o Monitor weight and BMI. o Assess for suicidal tendencies. o Assess pain level.
• Encourage the client to participate in therapy. – With a better understanding of their disorder, mentally they may be able to control some of the pain.
• Teach the client distraction techniques. – This will reduce pain and keep them focused on something else.
• Encourage the client to participate in activities to reduce pain level. – This will allow them to reduce pain level and feel better.
• Allow client to do as much for themselves as possible. – Doing this hopefully will reduce their ability to use excuses for their pain.
• Encourage the patient to do exercises and range of motion. – This should allow them to move better and not become stiff, reducing pain.
• Allow the client to feel comfortable with you. – They may need someone to talk to and you want to have an open communication with them.
• Educate the family about this disorder. – They do not need to “feed into” their loved one.
