I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 101. This book is about three kids named Jem, Scout, and Dill and their interests in the creepy house on the street containing the infamous Boo Radley. In To Kill A Mockingbird, the children attempt several times to see if this crazed man is real. Many clues point to the theory that Boo might not be all that bad. While the kids are getting into mischief, Jem and Scout’s father has been a great parent and role model. Atticus is also a lawyer and has taken the case of a black man accused of rape. The whole town has being going nuts about it, giving him and his children grief for defending a negro. Atticus had noticed her there and purposefully taught her a life lesson without Scout even realizing it. Atticus is also loving as well as a good role model. One way he lets his love shine through is by his kindness.When he scolds his children, he uses words with kindness instead of a anger. For example, Atticus caught Jem, Dill, and Scout attempting to stick the note into Boo’s house through the loose shutter with a fishing pole. Instead of yelling and whipping them like most parents would have done, he spoke in a calm voice and explained to them that Boo deserves to be left alone if that’s what he wishes. Atticus also doesn’t whip his children as I mentioned before. I really think this shows how much kindness he has in his heart because it was considered normal to hit your children during the time period of To Kill A Mockingbird. However, Atticus never has because he believes you should raise children with love and kindness, not violence. The fact that Atticus bought his children air-rifles for Christmas also shows selflessness. It was obviously very hard for the family, economically speaking, because of the stock market
