Atticus is wise beyond his years. He is wise because he gives Scout his daughter advice when she needs it. When everyone else wouldn’t take Tom Robinson’s case Atticus decided to take his case. He explains himself to Scout that if he didn’t take case he couldn’t hold his head up in town. Atticus took Tom Robinson’s case because he felt it was right thing to do. “I’m simply defending a Negro- his name’s Tom Robinson.” (Lee) He’s explaining to Scout that because of his job he’s defending a black man in a racist neighborhood.
He is a respectful gentleman. Atticus warns Jem his son not to lose his patiencepatienece when passing Mrs.Dubose’s house. “Easy does it son. She’s an old lady, and she’s ill, You just hold your head high and be a gentleman.” He tells Jem this to teach him how to be a gentleman. He also is a respectful gentleman because he compliments Mrs.Dubose even though she talks about him behind his back. “Good evening Mrs.Dubose!! You look like a picture this evening.” Atticus demonstrates that he can be a gentleman even under certain circumstances.
Overall Atticus is a good role model for his kids. He is wise, bold, and respectful gentleman. He is wise because he gives Scout advice when she needs it. He is bold because he does the unthinkable and defends Tom Robinson in court. Atticus is a respectful gentleman because he sets an example for his kids to
