The American Civil War, occurring from 1861 to 1865, was the deadliest war in American history- resulting in the deaths of over 600,000 people. Enacted between the Confederacy in the South and the Union in the North, it divided the nation. Ultimately, Union troops were victorious, attributed to the socioeconomic differences between the North and the South, the leadership of Abraham Lincoln and the Battle of Gettysburg.
