Concussions in football has become a big topic the past couple of years. More players each year come out saying they have some kind of brain damage from past concussions they were not taken care of properly well they played. They are now testing new helmets and materials that they could possible use in the future to prevent concussions. Concussions in football are a serious factor in the sport and how in the future will they help try and stop the amount of them happening in the sport. A concussion defined by The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is a mild traumatic brain injury caused by a blow or jolt to the head or body that causes the brain to shake. The shaking can cause the brain to not work normally and can result in serious side effects. Concussions can occur even when a person does not lose consciousness. Some of the symptoms of a concussion can appear right after it happened, but other symptoms may take days to show up. In the past two years in the NFL around 489 players during the preseason and regular season practices and games have been diagnosed with concussions. Over the past 4 years many NFL players have committed suicide because they cannot stand to deal with the brain injuries they have suffered from getting concussions in the NFL and having them not being treated properly. In 2012 a lawsuit combining more than 80 concussions related to more than 2000 NFL players was filed in federal court. The players are blaming the NFL for not dealing with their concussions properly which has led to brain damage and some people long term brain damage.
