In the general population, 1 in 6 women experience rape or attempted rape at some time in their lives, and 1 in 33 men experience attempted rape. Considering those in college, an estimated 20 to 25 percent of college women experience attempted or completed rape during their years in college. On the other hand, for the college men, the estimated number is about 6 percent. Throughout the first semester of women college years, they tend to be at a high risk of date rape. If the victim is under 18 then the perpetrator can be charged with statutory rape whether there was consent or not. Some rape cases are not reported to safety guidance or the police on the campus. Victims tend to feel a shame about the whole incident and they do not participate or intend on talking about the situation.
