Introduction The school system in the United States is a complex system with varying levels from federal to local. The ultimate goal on all levels is to educate the population. Education can led to an avenue of different possibilities in the future for a given individual. The only problem with this is the fact that not every person in the United States is given the same opportunity to an equal education. The inequalities in our country have an effect on the U.S. educational system. Sociologists have theories as to why there is inequality in education. So for our society to advance, there needs to be an understanding of why inequality in education exists and alternatives to improve it.

The theory I feel that best describes education inequality is the conflict perspective. According to (Korgen & Furst, 2012), “Conflict theorists, like functionalists, use a macro perspective, but instead focus on structural inequities in education systems, such as funding distribution. Conflict theorists, focusing on patterns of inequality, point out that schools rely, largely, on local property taxes for funds.” School funding is broken down like this: 43.8% from local property taxes, 46.7% from state governments, and 9.5% from the federal government. So conflict theorist feel that because such a large percentage comes from property taxes, inequality is created by the wealthier communities because they pay a greater amount in taxes. The main problem that will be the funding to do all these projects. This type on endeavor is big, so there will need to be a large amount of money to accomplish this task. The increased amount of resources will be needed to come from the local, state, and federal governments. You will need the facilities, supplies, educators, and an administrative structure. These are all the things that need to be provided on the local, state, and federal levels. Also, you have to get the low-income communities to buy into the programs. It would not matter how much time and money you put into a program, you need people to want to use it. So there would need to be a campaign in place to get the word out to the people in the
