After they were stripped from their clothes from the wedding, the new arrival had to wear clothes from previous prisoners at the camp before standing in line waiting to receive their tattoo, which would become their new name. Slowly walking out of that each of them had to get their hair cut with dull scissors and rough pliers. With each and every clump of hair that Hannah lost, she lost memories of the timeline she came from.
As time passed in the camps, Hannah ends up doing some of the more easier jobs in order to stay alive to remember what happened in these camps for future generations to learn about. When it is Rivkah’s turn to be put in the showers, Hannah steps in and takes her place instead. She was terrified of that fact of facing death this way; yet she gave her a chance to live on to increase her chance of surviving. Many times over themes and characteristics are the same in both movie and book. A theme that remained the same throughout them both was the pain and suffering during the Holocaust. This affects the characters mindset, which happens to be another similarity. The mindset of these characters are gloomy and without hope at times. With Hannah, she tells stories, and by this she is able to keep others hopeful in making it out
