INTRODUCTION
The culture of nursing has evolved over the years, nurses are conducting research and developing process to provide the patients with the best possible care, which is termed as Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). This article is an evidence based practice project done by a group of nurses at a hospital in central, northeast Pennsylvania to bring changes in nursing dress code policies to contribute quality patient experience in hospital. This study was done to understand patient perception regarding the professional image of nurses in their facility. Nurses strive to maintain their professionalism while taking care of their patient. The nurses, play a very important role in this process, and to achieve the above objective they should display high levels of professionalism in all aspects of care including their appearance. A uniform serve as a reflection of how public identifies the role of the wearer. (Bate, 2010). In the organization that I work, there is no standardized dress code for the nurses or for any other health care staff, they are allowed to wear scrubs of any color, provided it does not violate the organizations dress code. Since there are no standardized uniforms for each category of health care workers, I have experienced that the patients find it difficult to identify the nurse from the rest of the health care staff. For instance, it is possible the Nursing assistance, Health technician, the Janitor and the Registered nurse wear the same colored scrub and be working in the same unit, which can be really confusing for the patient in identifying the registered nurse from the other professionals. Most of the patients in our unit are elderly veterans, having a standardized uniform throughout the hospital can have a positive impact on the patient experience. Implementing a standardized uniform policy will improve the perspective of nurses among patients and the public. This EBP research and other research has proven that patients prefer nurses to be easily identifiable and professional in appearance. I will strongly suggest to have common uniform policy in my organization, where each group of health care workers have different colored uniforms or
