The human anatomy comes in many different shapes and sizes. Modeling agencies tend to like models who are tone, sender, and tall. Society’s promotion of certain body types cause those who do not fall under these standards to suffer from severe body image issues. These insecurities are emphasized through media. Most advertisements showcase women and men who have very athletic bodies. Most models have a very low BMI. Media's perception of beauty causes average people to feel different from the norm.“Approximately 40% of girls report being moderately or extremely dissatisfied with their bodies” (Whyte 823).
Although modeling agencies love tall slender women, many young female teens are bullied due to their height. Height is a characteristic that is typically perceived as manly. Young men who are tall are considered more attractive, masculine, and mature. Whereas shorter guys are looked down upon and considered feminine. Shorter men typically also have a harder time getting a job than taller men do. Young girls who experience extreme growth spurts are considered odd and awkward. While shorter girls are typically viewed as childlike. Even into adulthood shorter women are typically viewed as unsophisticated. Many short women feel inferior in the business

The participants were shown multiple silhouettes that were sized from 1 to 9. They were were asked “which silhouette would you like to look like” (del Mar Bibiloni, et al. 2). Based on the participants answers ¾ of the population studied reported body image dissatisfaction. The study also showed that females were more concerned with weight gain than males were. A study done on Norwegian mothers showed that women considered obese prior to pregnancy were more likely to suffer from depression after pregnancy.
