Blayden Hartke Mrs. Bailey Language Arts 15 March 2024 The Drawbacks of a Four Day School Week. In recent years, the thought of changing to a four day school week has been being thought about. About 900 districts in twenty-four states have embraced the idea. However, many people are not looking at the multiple negative impacts with the four day schedule. One reason why a four day school week would be bad is that this has on the kids is that this will increase each day by 90 minutes to compensate for the missed day. Another reason why schools should not switch to a four-day school schedule is that it would be bad for a kid's mental and educational health. Kids will exhaust their little minds from learning for so long. It could be bad for their health. The text states,”...On average students on four day schedules spend 58 fewer hours in class...” (Frank 11) This will eventually lead kids to not grow as smart as they could. ”Most research shows students on four-day schedules don’t perform as well on standardized tests.” (Frank 11) This is because they are learning for so long and so hard that they tend to get stressed out and not do as well on detrimental tests.
