There is no greater feeling than the realization that a miracle might happen. The football team we’ve cheered for, for the last 30 years finally has a chance to win. Until the unthinkable happens, the referee makes a bad call. Every fan is now in an uproar, the fans that remained seated throughout the entire game are now on their feet, and we lost the game. Name calling and attempting to belittle the referees is all a fan can do to plead their case and make them feel a little better. Our team lost, we all go home, continue with the disappointing lose for a few weeks or even months. This is how it may play out in a professional sport but this same exact behavior on the sidelines of a child’s football game has a more significant impact than most fans even think about. This same type of behaviors continues to occur, even in our local communities. These rules should be put in place not only for the fans, but the parents, coaches and officials who are involved in the event. But this may be a more difficult task than we think. First, we would need to define what the inappropriate behaviors are. A fan is a person that is devoted to their team. They are an enthusiastic extension of the team and at times they give them the moral support they may need. A fan should still be able to cheer without taking all the fun out of it. Trash talking at a child’s event should not be allowed, ever. But remember, a fan is there to support their team. If they think an official made a call that was wrong, they should be able to voice their opinion, to an extent. This is where the ambiguity comes in. This is too vague and cannot be measured scientifically and this is where fans, coaches and officials sometimes take it too
