Elie, his father, and the men that were selected to go to the labor camps were first taken to the crematorium and witnessed how babies, women, and elders were being burnt. After this experience Elie started to question God, but kept his faith. Elie and his father had to lie about their age so they could go to the labor camps without being separated, only men who were strong enough and capable of doing any hard work were sent to the labor camps and the others were sent to the crematorium. Elie and his father tried to be together each time they went through selection, and had each other’s back. They tried to keep their faith to God, even though they were witnessing many horrible things, like children being hung up and elders working to death. After going through starvation, being in horribly cold weather conditions, and witnessing many acts of terror in the concentration camps, Elie’s father started to care less about himself and lose faith on God, Elie did too, he started to wish he would die, but tried to keep on going and survive for his father.
