Arguments during our Time
Throughout the course of history, Many causes of arguing have been recorded and debated about. Arguments could occur over any kind of situation throughout any given period. The world today contains many of these arguments that cause the people of america or even the world to question many of them. Some arguments are pointed out to be very helpful in proving its point to the world. Other arguments do not help proving their point and prove to be very unhelpful in the world today. Montgomery. The author of this essay really gets your attention with something more serious in the world today and explores ideas on how we should respond to them. The Island of Plenty explains how the certain parts of the world today should not receive assistance from america. He believes we should not help because if we do, we would just be prolonging the suffering these poor countries experience. The author quotes “We are not responsible for the rest of humanity.” He also quotes that “The problem is not that there is too little food. The problem is there are too many people.” The author brings up a good point by explaining that if we keep feeding the poor countries, Then the people of those countries would reproduce and the cycle would continue. By refusing to give those countries food, it would reduce the amount of food we lose greatly. The author quotes “The future of mankind is indeed with the children. But it is with the nourished, educated and loved children. It is not with the starving, uneducated and ignored.” This point is very important because it is debatable and the main point of the argument revolves around this. This is because the argument was very one sided. He only considered the effect for america and does not seem to know the living life of 3rd world countries. The next argument essay called “Being Prepared In Suburbia” by Roger Verhulst was a very descriptive argument. The author of this essay was at one point against the idea of guns and did not want people to own them. The author then explains how he finally held a rifle and it made him understand why people did not want to let them take away their gun rights. The author experienced both sides of the argument and figured out that gun legislation will not have much of a chance to stop these people. The author quotes “I’ve felt the gun in my hand punch psychic holes in my intellectual convictions.” This shows that having experienced the use of a gun changed his whole viewpoint of the whole matter. Seeing both sides of the conflict opened his eyes to the matter and this is the reason why his argument is the best. his experience with the gun and the experience before using the gun helps him understand why people would not want to let go of their rights towards gun laws.
