Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton were both Founding Fathers in the late 1700’s to the early 1800’s, but these two men were nothing alike. They both had different opinions. Jefferson was a Democrat-Republican and Hamilton was a Federalist. Both Founding Fathers always fought politically and could never agree. Jefferson and Hamilton had different views on what human nature should be like. Hamilton believed that most people were selfish and didn’t care about anyone else but themselves. Jefferson had a different view. Jefferson had so much confidence in a man that a man could have good sense of him, while Hamilton couldn’t trust anyone. These are part of why these men are different. Jefferson thought that this was an attack on the freedom of speech and press. Jefferson then brought this to the law. The law declared that the states could nullify the laws. Hamilton always wanted everything to be big, and Jefferson wanted a small community. Hamilton wanted business, manufacturing, trade, land grants for education and infrastructure. This was Hamilton's ideal economy. Jefferson wanted agriculture to be the ideal economy, that's why he wanted farmers to be leaders. Alexander Hamilton wanted the National Bank, because he thought it was supported by loose construction and the elastic clause. Hamilton thought that it was okay for the constitution to be flexible. Jefferson thought that the National Bank would not support the farmers and was not a strict construction. Jefferson wanted to follow the Constitution law by law. Federalists supported Britain because Britain was powerful and respectful. Republicans supported the French Revolution because they thought the French Revolution was “an open hell.” I think this was one of the reasons why Federalists and Republicans took different paths.
