She has a very good personality but is very quiet unless she is asked a question. The student is very attentive and seems to understand phonics and primary vocabulary well enough to answer most questions correctly that she is asked. Each day when they were read a story and given their words and letter of the week, they would the complete a worksheet on the above as a whole group. They would also trace and write their letter of the week so that they could practice their handwriting. Occasionally worksheets are okay, but students get bored doing two phonics worksheets a day. Teaching phonics using the Ashlock program is great. I could tell the students enjoyed it and looked forward to it every day. It is a fun yet different type of way to teach phonics. If they did good with Ashlock each day, then the students were rewarded with a dancing or alphabet song that they chose. I think doing Ashlock in small groups would help the slow learning students understand phonics more. No matter if the students were smart and understood things well or they took longer to understand a concept, they all were taught phonics and vocabulary the same
