People are admired for many different reasons. One who looks after the well-being of others is considered admirable. People who are hard-working, kind, compassionate, and considerate also demonstrate qualities of highly admired people. Admirable people ultimately uphold solid moral standards and treat others well; this strong moral compass is a common theme that draws admiration in literature. Several characters in Little Fires Everywhere demonstrate admirable qualities, while others possess less desirable attributes. This mix of characters allows the reader to distinguish between what is considered honorable and what is not. She is willing to help, support and provide for them. For instance, she rents the Winslow house to Mia and Pearl and keeps the rent lower than the market because she feels they have not gotten a fair shot at life (17). An admirable person recognizes someone else in need and does their best to help. Elena shows she is kind and generous by offering a below-market-priced apartment to a deserving family. She also offers Mia a job cleaning her house because she realizes Mia needs extra income. Elena suggests it would be just a few hours a day, leaving her time to focus on her photography because she knows it is her passion (62). With this offer, Elena helps Mia financially and emotionally by supporting her needs and passion. Finally, Elena offers guidance and support to Pearl to help her develop her journalism skills. Elena recognizes Pearl's talent in journalism and offers to invest her time and efforts to help mentor her.
