Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani born girl who over the years has become an outspoken activist who voices her concerns on education and against the Taliban. Malala Yousafzai grew up in Pakistan and lived through the horrendous changes that September 11 has brought upon the “Paradise” (I Am Malala) that is Pakistan. During the time after September 11, Pakistan, Afghanistan and many other parts in the Middle East suffered from the U.S. occupancy. In response to the U.S. invasion and bombing of Afghanistan, the Taliban, an extremist group forged as a resistance to the Soviet occupation of the Middle East in 1979, fled from Afghanistan and settled with their Pashtun brothers in Pakistan. …show more content…
One evening, Malala and her friend were traveling on a bus when they had an encounter with a Taliban. The Taliban pointed a gun at Malala and fired a round into her eye. After various surgeries in Pakistan and England, Malala survived and was not only able to recuperate completely, but became a brave and fearless activist; more so than before. The heinous acts committed upon humanity by the Taliban left a huge emotional, as much as physical, scar upon the residence of Pakistan. Ever since the invasion of the Taliban, the people of Pakistan no longer trusted in each other as anyone could become a Taliban (voluntarily or by force) and talking ill of the extremist could result in the death of said person.
