In the article The Problem With Media Multitasking While Reading I was not surprised by the results the experimenters came to after conducting their studies and also believed everything that they stated this kind of multitasking can do. I am well aware of the effects media multitasking can have on our studies, but am guilty of doing it myself. I never engage in media multitasking during lectures or class time, I make sure to always put my phone in my backpack as soon as class beings and proceed to take handwritten notes. Most of my professors know of our habits and do not allow us to bring laptops to class and only allow them if there is a medical condition that calls for the use of typing instead of writing. After working on my essay for thirty minutes without interruptions I became aware of the fact that I accomplish three times the amount of work without a phone by my side than with a phone. I also registered that my thoughts flowed fluently and it was easier for me to manifest what I had to say. I was also able to tap into my source memory and retrieve information that we talked about during class and knew how to use it in context in my essay. My short-term memory and iconic memory had improved significantly and simply had to read the text one time before applying it in my essay. It was difficult for me to concentrate at the beginning of this session because my phone and social media are my portals to the outside world. I acualized that we are so attached to our small screens and social media that we lose track of what is important and is sitting in front of us on a bright, much bigger screen. Even though I was faced with other small distractions like small talk with people around me or getting up to use the restroom, it was nothing compared to what it is like checking your phone every time you receive an instant message or notification on your
