Melanoma is the most dangerous skin cancer. Melanoma is developed when unrepaired DNA damage to skin cells which triggers transformations that lead skin cells to multiply and form tumors. Melanomas often resemble moles. It kills an estimated 10,130 people, in the US, yearly. If melanoma is recognized early it is almost curable.

Melanoma is a dangerous disease because it spreads so easily to the lymph nodes. The tumors grow larger as the as the cancer advances. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on your moles to make sure they are not changing. If they start to change it may be a sign of skin cancer. Even small melanomas can spread quickly and easy to the lymph nodes.

Melanoma is caused by unrepaired skin cells which causes transformations that lead to tumors. Many researchers have found genes in moles that change and cause melanoma cells. UV rays come from sunlight, but some may be man made and come from tanning beds. It’s not always clear when the UV rays cause DNA damage. Some damage may take a couple years before it turns cancerous. Gene mutations are often passed on from generation to generation. …show more content…
