The police officers deal with the general public on a daily basis. Some of the individuals they meet do experience mental health issues at some point. It is important therefore for the police to effectively engage with this individuals through their distressed situations. This will allow the police to work and support individuals experiencing episodes of mental health related problems in a manner that makes them feel safe. (SOURCE) illustrated that a section 12 approved doctor is a psychiatric practitioner with the training and qualification in the application of the Mental Health Act. Similarly, an AMPH is a healthcare professional with expertise in the MHA (SOURCE). Subsequently, after section 136 lapses several things may happen such as the AMPH and doctor deciding that an individual needs to be detained in hospital and placed on section.
