Metabolism is the chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life. Energy is not naturally in a form we can use to survive. We must eat, mainly sugars and digest the food. The process is called metabolism. Metabolism consists of all the chemical reactions an organism needs to maintain itself. Metabolism is important because it provides energy to our bodies. This process is necessary to sustain life. Without metabolism living organisms will die. Any errors in the metabolic process it will cause problems like diabetes. Anabolism is the synthesis of complex molecules in living organisms from simpler ones, the constructive form of metabolism. Catabolism

The primarily structure of proteins are amino groups and acidic carboxyl group. They allow the individual amino acids to join together in long chains by forming peptide bonds. A peptide bond is a chemical bond formed between two molecules, releasing a molecule of water. This is also known as a dehydration synthesis reaction, because or the release of water. secondary structures are stretches or strands of proteins or peptides that have similar secondary structures. There are two main secondary structures, the a-helix and the b-sheet. the a-helix is a right handed coil strand. the b-sheet has its hydrogen bonds between strands rather than in them. the tertiary structure is the overall three- dimensional shape of an entire protein molecule. The three-dimensional shape may seem weird but it is many stabilizing forces that keep it the way it is. many proteins are made of many poly peptide chains. the quaternary structure refers to how these protein sub-units interact with each other. the instructions come from the main source of power of the cell. This provides structure and serves as signals for the other cells. Proteins get there three-dimensional shape from a process called protein folding. protein folding is the process by witch a protein structure assumes its functional shape. the three dimensional structure of a protein defines its …show more content…
During the lactase lab people had observed how lactase broke down lactase molecules. This shows how enzymes can be changed to denature and break peptide bonds. During the pineapple lab we saw how using something that increases the breakdown of a solid. during the liver lab we noticed that enzymes can change and denature in different temperatures and pH. when we put the liver in a different pH, it denatured quick just like the hypothesis that was made. also in that lab we saw how temperature can affect the denaturing of enzymes. when the liver and enzyme were put in the warm water they reacted quickly because the heal helped the peptide bonds
